It’s finally here! The very first installment of The Science Baby Podcast 🎉
This episode is your chance to meet your hosts: me, Leila, and my co-host Kim. We’re both science communicators, first-time mums, and endlessly curious about the science behind pregnancy, birth, and everything that comes after.

What to Expect in Episode 1
In our debut episode, we share our personal journeys into motherhood alongside the professional (and slightly nerdy) backgrounds that led us here. We also dive into some of the big topics that have shaped our early parenting experiences, including:
- Matrescence — the profound transition into motherhood
- Maternal mental health — why it matters and how we’ve experienced it
- The medicalization of birth — and how it has influenced our own stories
We also talk openly about why we wanted to make this podcast and what you can expect in future episodes. Think of it as a blend of relatable storytelling, gentle reassurance, and solid science. It’s something you can pop on while feeding the baby, folding laundry, or just grabbing a moment to yourself.
Why We Started The Science Baby Podcast
Like many new parents, we found ourselves constantly Googling things about pregnancy, babies, and toddlers, only to discover fascinating science behind those everyday questions. From sleep to feeding to child development, the more we learned, the more we wanted to share.
That’s how The Science Baby Podcast was born: a space where we explore the science of parenting while being honest about the joys, mess, and challenges of early motherhood.
